Spanish-Language Coverage of Genetic Testing
Spanish-language Mass Media outlets, in particular Univision and Telemundo, have not been thoroughly assessed in how they cover, frame, and set the agenda for Genetic Testing. As such, with a recent grant award from the University of Utah Center for Excellence in ELSI (Ethical, Legal and Social Implications of Genetics) Research (UCEER), I am leading a project in assessing mass media news coverage of genetic testing and how that may influence attitudinal formation from Spanish-speaking Latinx members.

Ongoing Projects of Spanish-Language Media Coverage of Genetic Testing
Describing the past 8 Years
As there has been no published research on genetic testing coverage, I have collected over 243 news stories since 2012 from Univision and Telemundo. With two bilingual coders, we are currently characterizing these stories using a content analysis and hope to publish this work by the end of the year if not early next 2021.
In-Depth Health Coverage
As I am interested in genetic testing in health and clinical contexts, I am interested to know how Spanish-language Mass Media outlets like Univision and Telemundo cover health-specific genetic testing in news articles. Largely we believe this coverage plays a role in motivations and intentions via attitude formation, yet again, there is no published research regard this, and I hope to shed light on this phenomenon.
